About Abergavenny Film Society

Background

Abergavenny Film Society is Wales' longest running film society, started by a group of friends in 1978. From the outset, the Society has shown programmes of films carefully chosen from what they consider the best available from around the world. Our 2018/2019 season, starting on 26th September 2018, is no exception.

Equal emphasis has always been given to the social side of the society and to promote this the society runs its own bar, offering drinks and light snacks before the film and during the interval. Film notes are available on the door and audience members are encouraged to comment on the film they have seen by means of reaction sheets. The latter is a useful guide as to the type of film our audience might enjoy in future seasons. Printed programmes for the 2018/19 season may be found from early September at Abergavenny Library and Abergavenny Borough Theatre.

Film screenings

The society has always tried to be up to date with technology and digital projection was introduced some years ago. This, together with superb sound reproduction equipment and a venue with comfortable banked seating, ensures that screenings are of the highest standard.

Location and ticket details

Our venue is the Melville Centre, Pen-y-pound, Abergavenny NP7 5UD and screenings take place fortnightly on Wednesdays from September to April.
Click on 'Programme' above for full details of this season's films. All showings start at 7.30 p.m. and the doors open at 6.45 p.m. so that film-goers may have a drink or a cup of coffee in the bar. Members are guaranteed a seat if they arrive before 7.20 p.m.

Tickets for individual screenings are available on the door for non-members.  Tickets cost £5.00, (£3 for students and other concessions on production of proof of status) and are available on the evening of the screening on a first-come, first-served basis.

Age restrictions

Membership of the Society is open to anyone over the age of 16.
Please note that admission to films is open only to over-16's, irrespective of any given film's certificate.
